TAG
The basic rules for 5nl
When starting to play online poker, you should understand that almost any style can work. The pro's that you see on the tv and videos all have crazy styles and obviously it works. However the style most people are going to be able to use and is proven to work is the low variance TAG style, especially at microstakes.
So what does "TAG" mean? TAG means tight aggressive, that means you're playing a small range of hands (between 16% to 25% of your cards normally) and when you go into a pot, you're very aggressive.The characteristics of TAG players are that they will raise preflop with strong cards, 3 bet preflop (3 betting is raising before any cards are turned over on the flop) and will play post flop very aggressively even if they have missed sometimes.
This is a picture of the cards that you should be playing preflop, this is extremely simplified though. As this does not take into account position. I will explain position in a future blog.

First blog, poker at the nano micro stakes
I've been thinking about doing one of these blogs for a while a go. My reasons for creating the blog is;
A) Add some accountability to my poker game (If I have to report my progress back to a blog I may play better)
B) To be able to discuss poker with people online.
Been playing 5nl poker for about 4 months - although I have only got 60 hours played. Through this blog I will explain how I changed from a losing player to a less losing player. After a few months, my aim is to be playing consistently good poker and making a steady amount of money.
This is my graph at the moment. As you can see it's quite low variance and pretty steady. In my next blog I will explaining what worked for me at 2nl/5nl.
